Proper Preparation for Hiking Alone – Be Ready for Any Ordeal

Although humans are social beings by nature, some people go through experiences that leave them with a need to sit alone and recollect, getting rid of worries, stress, and all issues that are overwhelming them. If you’re in that state yourself and you need some time alone to feel better, you have probably already considered going on a hike. Checklist for Hiking Alone – Come Prepared for Any Situation

Undoubtedly, the most important aspect of hiking alone is preparing properly so that you won’t be caught off-guard in any situation. #1 – Cutting Tools

Otherwise, you put yourself in great danger as you won’t be able to cut wood that you need in case you sleep on the trail overnight or you want to prepare some warm food, you won’t have a tool to remove big branches or logs that are in your way, and so on. For cutting wood, take a strong hatchet or camping ax with you on your solo hike adventure. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have a regular knife at your disposal for cutting food or other tasks where you need a finesse tool.

#2 – Liquids

Hydration is essential, without it we wouldn’t survive. Instead of taking your chances and risking remaining without liquids in the middle of the trip, pack a lot of liquids with you. Also, pick a route where you have a clean-water river in your proximity. This way, in case you run out of water, you can refill the bottle from the river and move on without risking dehydration.

#3 – Food Supplies

Obviously, you must pack enough food supplies to ensure that you won’t starve in the middle of your trip. We recommend that you pick the food you take with you based on the weather at that moment. If it’s cold, go for fat food and meat that helps your body maintain heat levels. If it’s warm outside and the forecast says that there won’t be any drastic changes, you can basically take any food that you like with you. Just make sure that you pack enough and that you don’t skip on 1-2 sweets – you never know when your glycemia could fall and you yearn for a chocolate bar.

#4 – Camping Tent

Another obvious item that you have to pack is a camping tent that you can sleep in if the hiking adventure takes longer than you initially thought or if you plan it to span over more than one day. Take a 1-person tent with you that won’t occupy too much space in the backpack. After all, it’s pointless to carry a bigger load than needed if you’re the only one making the journey. Also, make sure that the tent is weatherproof – if it rains, you don’t want water to invade your sleeping space.

#5 – Clothes

As you plan your trip, prior to leaving home, check the weather forecast to see how the temperature is where you plan on hiking and dress accordingly. Regardless of how sunny the forecast says it will be, you should pack a jacket and some pants that can keep you warm in case it rains or harsh winds start blowing.
